History

Inspired by Mike Farris’ book The Joshua Generation, Generation Joshua was founded in 2004 by Farris, Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) President Mike Smith, and the HSLDA Board of Trustees.

In the book, Farris casts a vision for this next generation to build on the foundation their parents built.

Generation Joshua exists to train this generation of young people and equip them to be Christian servant leaders in America.

Generation Joshua is part of the 501(c)(4) membership organization that is HSLDA Action. It works with the HSLDA-PAC and HSLDA VA-PAC. This allows Generation Joshua to conduct non-partisan educational activities while also being able to participate actively in the election process through the HSLDA-PAC. Since it was founded in 2004, Generation Joshua has trained over 25,000 students and has established over 100 clubs nationwide.

Generation Joshua promotes educational excellence and civics education to its members. Including the high school curriculum iCitizen, Civic Literacy for Young Americans, and iCitizen Live, a part of the HSLDA Academy.

Generation Joshua has also annually hosted a summer leadership camp (iGovern) since 2004. The summer camps have been held in Virginia, Colorado, Ohio, California, Hawaii, and Tennessee.

Generation Joshua is also an active force in the political arena, and as of 2010, has worked on over 155 campaigns including state, Congressional, and Presidential races in Colorado, California, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

As the Generation Joshua Program continues to grow, more conservative godly youth get involved in the political system making a real difference in our nation. The future of Generation Joshua will continue to be an exciting journey as the next generation shapes this nation and becomes tomorrow’s leaders.
