COVID-19 and iGovern Date Change Update
May 7, 2020

Over the past few months, we have been through a global pandemic together. While each nation and state has handled it differently, most of our normal habits and routines have been turned upside down for weeks now. I’m sure you’ve watched as church gatherings, conferences, concerts, and other events have had to be cancelled or postponed. As we said at the beginning of all this, our fervent desire has been to maintain the original schedule and dates for iGovern camps this summer.

However, as we’ve monitored developments, updates, and guidelines from government and health authorities, it has become clear that we need to revise our original plans to ensure that we can deliver on the foundational promises of every GenJ event: the safety and wellbeing of our students and an exceptional learning experience. My team and I have been evaluating every option for creating the best revised plan that causes the least disruption and serves as many of you as possible. I have to be frank with you—no decision was going to be perfect, and we know that some of you will be disappointed by the changes.

So please know two things:

1. You have every right to feel disappointment.

2. We share that disappointment on a deep level. But we also believe that this is the best way to responsibly offer you an amazing iGovern experience this summer.

Now that you know how we approached this decision, I want to present you with the updated plan for iGovern 2020. I will outline the big picture in brief bullet points, and then expand on each point further. (Please read thoroughly and email our team at info@generationjoshua.org if you have any remaining questions or concerns.)

iGovern East

Is still happening, but the dates are moving! The new dates for iGovern East are July 19-25. (More info below.)

iGovern Statecraft

Is cancelled for this year. As you might guess, this was the hardest call we had to make. This decision was not reached lightly or easily, but we believe it is the best path forward based on Virginia’s lockdown timeline and our dual commitments to maintaining the wellbeing of the students we serve and delivering the iGovern experience quality you’ve come to know and love. However… we’re not going to give up the Statecraft experience completely. (More info below.)

iGovern West

Is still happening, but the dates are moving! The new dates for iGovern West are August 2-8. (More info below.)

Now that you know the big picture for the summer, please keep reading to learn how we are going to handle the inevitable questions, complications, and opportunities these changes present. Below, you will find info specific to the camp or camps you are registered for. We hope most of you will be able to make it to iGovern East or iGovern West at the new dates. But we are happy to offer you a full refund with no questions asked should you be unable or choose not to.

If you’re registered for iGovern East ONLY:

The new dates for iGovern East are July 19-25. If you plan to attend iGovern East at these dates, you do not need to take any further action! You will remain registered for the new dates and you can adjust your travel plans accordingly. If you are unable or choose not to attend iGovern East with the new dates, we are happy to offer you a full refund (including the previously non-refundable deposit). Please email info@generationjoshua.org and let us know if you’d like to cancel your registration and receive a refund.

Note: Most cancellations and refunds will be processed the week of May 18. If you need your refund earlier than that, please email us and we will do our best to expedite it for you.

If you’re registered for iGovern Statecraft ONLY:

As outlined above, we have unfortunately had to cancel iGovern Statecraft 2020. But we’re not throwing in the towel on the Statecraft spirit! We are actively exploring ways to merge some of your favorite parts of iGovern Statecraft with the week of iGovern East. (And we’d love to hear which parts YOU think we should incorporate!) It will be different, but we promise it will be a blast.

If you would like to transfer your iGovern Statecraft registration over to an iGovern East registration, please let us know by emailing info@generationjoshua.org. We will send you info on how to register for iGovern East (to choose your classes, tracks, etc.) but your payments can be automatically transferred over from iGovern Statecraft to apply toward iGovern East in our registration system. If we do not hear anything from you by May 18, we will cancel and fully refund your iGovern Statecraft registration.

Note: Most cancellations and refunds will be processed the week of May 18. If you need your refund earlier than that, please email us and we will do our best to expedite it for you.

If you’re registered for iGovern East AND iGovern Statecraft:

Since iGovern Statecraft is cancelled, we plan to cancel and fully refund your Statecraft registration. We hope you will still be able to join us for the new iGovern East dates, but we understand if you are unable or choose not to. Email info@generationjoshua.org if you would also like to cancel your iGovern East registration and receive a full refund for that as well. If you plan to attend iGovern East at the new dates, you do not need to take any further action! You will remain registered for the new dates and you can adjust your travel plans accordingly.

Note: Most cancellations and refunds will be processed the week of May 18. If you need your refund earlier than that, please email us and we will do our best to expedite it for you.

If you’re registered for iGovern West:

The new dates for iGovern West are August 2-8. If you plan to attend iGovern West at these dates, you do not need to take any further action! You will remain registered for the new dates and you just need to adjust your travel plans accordingly. If you are unable or chose not to attend iGovern West with the new dates, we are happy to offer you a full refund (including the previously non-refundable deposit). Please email info@generationjoshua.org and let us know if you’d like to cancel your registration and receive a refund.

Note: Most cancellations and refunds will be processed the week of May 18. If you need your refund earlier than that, please email us and we will do our best to expedite it for you.

This has been a long update, but I wanted to be very transparent and upfront with the realities we are facing and our plans to adapt and overcome. We were committed to making a plan that puts us well in the clear of coronavirus risk and lockdown projections. At risk of stating the obvious, there is always a chance that something dramatic could still happen and put plans at risk once again. But we are taking the best info we can find, adding significant buffer, and moving forward.

While this isn’t easy, I believe it will be good. And this summer will be a fantastic adventure. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, comments, or concerns. And I sincerely hope to see you at camp this summer! I think we’re all going to be ready for it.

Sincerely,

Grewe_New

COVID-19 and iGovern Update
April 3, 2020

As you may have heard, the Governor of Virginia has issued a stay at home order for the Commonwealth. In light of that order, I wanted to give you an update on where we stand with iGovern 2020 as of today.

At this point, we are still optimistic that we will be able to have iGovern 2020.

Although it is accurate that the stay at home order extends until June 10, we are optimistic that the Governor will rescind the order before that date.

I don’t want to get too technical here, but the June 10 date was already set as the expiration of the Governor’s original Declaration of a State of Emergency. Because of that, and since the current CDC guidelines only extend until April 30, we are optimistically anticipating that the Governor will rescind the stay at home order well before the current June 10 date. (He has explicitly reserved the opportunity to revise and rescind the timeline.)

We are also monitoring the situation in Colorado where there is currently a stay at home order until April 11. We are very optimistic that the situation will improve before iGovern West is scheduled in late July.

That being said, we are closely following the CDC guidelines and other federal, state, and local announcements and regulations. We are hopeful that the situation will get better in the not-too-distant future.

However, if the situation does not improve, we will, of course, cancel some or all of the 2020 iGovern camps to comply with government regulations and, more importantly, to uphold our commitment to the safety and wellbeing of each one of our students.

If we do need to cancel iGovern, all registrants will receive a full refund.

Also, we are indefinitely postponing the early registration discount deadline. This discount was originally set to expire on April 6, but with the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 situation, we do not want to rush a decision about registering for iGovern.  Once there is more clarity about this situation, we will post an update about when the new deadline will be.

I do ask that you join me (and the rest of the GenJ staff) in praying for everyone involved in this situation. We pray for the medical community as they work on the front lines treating those with COVID-19 and for healing for everyone who has been infected by the virus. We also pray for wisdom for the governmental officials who have to make difficult decisions.

Would you also pray for me and the GenJ staff, that God would give us wisdom as we monitor the situation and need to make decisions?

We know that God is working through all of this and that His grace is sufficient for us in all circumstances. So, whatever comes, we look to Him.

Right now, we still believe that He is calling us to put together one of the best years of iGovern ever, and I hope to see you at iGovern this summer

Finally, I wanted to remind you that we regularly pray for our GenJ members. If there is something you would like prayer for, please email us at info@generationjoshua.org and let us know. We would be honored to pray more specifically for whatever is on your heart.

Sincerely,

Grewe_New
